Riley Creek on the Pend Oreille River was completely choked with Eurasian Milfoil prior to our August 2006 Renovate treatment
At the start of the major milfoil control work on the Pend Oreille system, our team found thousands of acres choked with this noxious weed. Many of the areas treated in 2006 remain milfoil free at this point. The majority of the areas treated with Sonar herbicide have remained free of this noxious weed since 2006. A second systemic herbicide, Renovate also provided excellent control over the long term.
This example is Riley Creek, a 77 acre bay off the river near Laclede. This site was treated with Renovate in August of 2006. It has not had to be treated since. We visited this creek this past week we noted that it remains milfoil free after four years. There are also beautiful stands of native aquatic plants throughout the bay. That provides a significantly value as the treatment carry over from year to year reduces the cost of control substantially.

[...] As this is potentially the last year of State Funding for the Bonner County Milfoil Control Program, it might be a good time to reflect on the accomplishments of the County. One of the things we did this winter was to get all of the surveys and treatment maps for the course of this project and create a map showing the original range of milfoil in this system. These areas totaled about 6,700 acres. This summer, only about 650 or less than 10 percent of those acres remained with some level of milfoil present. As our team performed the first applications in 2006 and this year’s program we noted a stunning difference in the system of this time frame as well.
